The United Nations was founded in 1945 after World War2. Over 1/3 of the worlds population independent territories. As a result of the declaration of independence many countries joined the U.N. It costs three dollars to build a land mine and it costs over 1,000 dollars to deactivate a land mine. There are 5 permanent countries of the United Nations those are the winners of world war two Russia,USA,France,China and the U.K. The U.N. sponsors many company's that help people like plumpy nuts which helps kids in Africa eat and many others like UNICEF,free rice.com and the world food program and in the U.N there are 10 non-permanent countries.
Hello my name is Teneil Meyer and I am going to tell u about the amazing trip I had at the United Nations. When we first got in the security building had to put all my stuff including my belt in a box to be scanned. Once I pushed that though the scanner I had to walk through a scanner just like when you go to the airport and you are leaving. Then you have to walk outside to get inside the United Nations. When I got I inside I thought it was so amazing. Then we walked all the way down to the checking in area. Then our tour guide came and she gave us a sticker that said “ UNITED NATIONS GUIDED TOURS”. We had to put it on the left side of our shirt. Then her part Martinez came and gave us headphones. At first I thought she was giving to us to keep. Then we went upstairs were there was a replica of the United Nations buildings. Around to building were flags of the 193 member states. When we were up there we learned about the six parts of the United Nations. They are the General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, International Court of Justice, Secretariat, Security Council, and Trusteeship Council. Those were the main parts of the United Nations. Then we went to a place where we talk about landmines and other things. I learned that world war two was the worst war in the world . I also learned that landmines cost $3.00 only. Today landmines are a legal . Did you know in world war two they would put people in jail then kill them. Then Martinez had us sit down and tell us about how the United nations helps the world in need. He told that when people are in trouble and they need water to drink and they have some and it is dirty that they give them a packed that makes water. Then he told us about the food they give them to eat. They have this special peanut butter that they use as food. Then we were leaving I was something on one of the walls and it said “Education is the most powerful weapon that can be used” . Then I was think about it when we were leaving and I said it will always be a powerful weapon in the world. Then before our tour was done our tour guides told us a web site called “ WWW.Freerice.com” and every time u answer I question right you donated rice to people in need.
Hello Teneil, After reading your post, I can tell that you really enjoyed yourself. I like the way you recounted the events of the day by using sequence words. I also can appreciate the way in which your use of details helped to paint a picture of all the sights you saw and experiences you had. Next time I want you to be aware of your grammar. There are a few mistakes in your post like: "u" instead of writing "you." Also, don't introduce what you are going to introduce. In other words cut the first sentence, and simply make a statement!
Example: Going to the United Nations was an awesome experience! (introduction) I am so grateful to have had an opportunity like this and I will never forget it for as long as I live! (closing)
Adrianna Morris Project BOOST Assignment World Trade Memorial 1. What tragic event occurred in NYC that prompted the world trade memorial to be built? The memorial of the World Trade Center would honor those who died throughout the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The thing that driven the world trade center memorial to come about was the fact that an outsized amount of people died during the 9-11 attack, as well as the amount of people that were suffering from there terrible wounds. As a result, the government decided to make a memorial to celebrate the lives of people and to show the terrorist that made nine eleven transpire. Therefore, the government later, organized a competition that would display which design would make the memorial look best. 2. What is the meaning behind the memorial? The meaning behind the memorial is to celebrate the lives of the individuals that died in the attack and the recollections of the Twin Towers.
Adrianna, You showed great insight as to why the World Trade Memorial was constructed. I totally agree with your second comment. Next time, I would like for you to check both your spelling and grammar errors before you post a message. Remember, the World Trade Memorial should never begin with lowercase letters; it is a specific location and or place like the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and should be written properly. Also noticed a little mistake with you past tense. "The thing that driven the...." The thing that drove the.... See the difference.
Overall, I think your post was pretty good. Mrs. Brown
Adrianna Morris Project boost assignment Interview Interviewee: my grandma Where you were when they event took place? Grandma: I was home watching my favorite show and then I turned on the news. I then heard about the attack. Did they know anyone who was involved in the event? Grandma: No. How did the event affect your thought of the world? Grandma: Well, I started to think that the world was kind of wicked for their cruel way of getting revenge. Did you ever think this was going to happen? Grandma: Not in a million years. I believe that was just completely wrong to do such a thing. Did you like the way that President Barack Obama handled the terrorist that was not unknown? Grandma: Yes. I was surprised when I heard how Mr. President actually killed Osama Bin’laden. I was also relieved because now I know that he won’t hurt anyone else.
On September 11, 2001 to planes crashed into the Twin Towers in Manhattan. This was a tragic day for people in America. The meaning behind the memorial to remember the people that died in the planes and in the towers. Here is an interview on my dad about the Twin Towers. Interview:

The meaning of the World Trade Center was to bring peace to the World. Today I’m going to do an interview on my mommy about the attacks to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
Question: Where were you when this happened? Answer: I was at my home. Question: Did you know anyone that was there first hand in the attacks? Answer: No I did not know anyone there first hand. Question: Were you scared when this happened? Answer: No, I was not scared but I was frightened. When I heard this I thought of taking boats and ships instead of planes. Question: Where did you hear about this event? Answer: From the media/TV news. Question: Did you know anyone like friends/family that live or work in Manhattan? Answer: Yes, as soon as I found this out I called them to make sure they were safe and they were and still are. Question: Did you think of anything when this happened? Answer: Yes, I thought of my country, because if this happened there half of the people would have been injured and/or dead.
I enjoyed reading your interview. However, I would have liked for you to delve deeper into your questioning by coming up with question that would give a more open ended response, instead of one answer. I know there's a little journalist in you. Mrs. Brown
Cameron Jardine Project Boost Assignment World Trade Center Memorial 1. What tragic event occurred in NYC that prompted the World Trade center Memorial to be built? The World Trade Center Memorial was built as a tribute of remembrance and honor to the people who were killed in the terror attacks on September 11, 2001 in New York City, Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon and February 1993 World Trade Center bombing. This was a terror attack that killed nearly 3,000 people and left many Americans wondering if we will ever be able to pick up the pieces and carry on with our lives or will we be always looking behind us for the next attack.
2. What is the meaning behind the memorial? The meaning behind the memorial is to give families of victims a place to remember the lives of their loved ones that were loss in this horrific attack. Families can go to the memorial site, take flowers and spend sometime there reflecting on their loved ones. Many families did not have their loved ones body to bury so they needed a place for closure. The names of every person who died in the terror attacks are inscribed in bronze panels edging the memorial pools, a powerful reminder of the largest loss of life resulting from a foreign attack on American soil and the greatest single loss of rescue personnel in American history.
I interviewed my Mom, Andrea Jardine, who worked in lower Manhattan.
1. Where were you when the event took place? Mom: I had gotten off the train at the Bowling Green Station when I noticed that some debris was flying around and someone shouted that a plane just went into the World Trade Center. I hurried to my job at JPMorgan Chase Bank at Water and Broad Street and when I got there my co-workers were crying and trembling that we were under a terrorist attack.
2. Did you know anyone who was involved in the event? Mom: Yes, my girlfriend, Catherine Robinson, who worked in the second building on the upper floors and was on her way down in the stairwell when the building collapsed. This was very sad, I last saw Catherine that summer when we went to Dorney Park in Pennsylvania. We had a great time together and was looking forward to our next trip not knowing it would be our last. Catherine family had a memorial service for her so we can say our goodbye.
I interviewed my dad who was in Trinidad when the 9/11 incident happened.
1 Q Where were you when the 9/11 incident happened? A I was at work in Trinidad when I heard the news?
2 Q How did you hear the news? A I heard the new from my co-worker then I started listening to CNN news
3. Q How did you feel about the incident? A I was horrified. I felt sympathy for the families who had lost their loved ones and I was angry. I could not imagine what would cause anyone to fly two airplanes into the World Trade Center.
4 Q Did you know anyone who was injured or died in the incident? A I did not know anyone who had died in the incident but I had friends who had lost friends and family.
5 Q Were you Scared? A Yes It was a very frightening experience. My brothers and sisters worked in Manhattan at that time.
6. Q Where you wondering who could have done it? A Yes, I wondering. I did suspect that it had something to do with terrorism.
7 Q How did you know that your family was ok? A I tried calling them but all circuits were busy. They eventually called me to say that all was well.
9 Q What was the reaction of people in Trinidad at the time? A There were different reaction by people at that time. Generally though I think people were scared and angry?
10 Q Did you see the plane crashed into the building? A Yes, when I say the replay of the first plane crashing into the building and saw the second plane actually crashing into the second that was probably one of the worst thing than anyone could witnessed.
11 Q Did you find anything else disturbing about that incident? A Yes, people actually jumping out of those buildings?. That gave me a chill.
12 Q How do you fell about it now? A. Its still a great loss for those who has lost their friends and family but the memorial site I think is a great idea where families can have a sacred place to remember their loved ones.
September 11, 2011 was the tenth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks. I remember watching the History Channel with my family and learning about this tragedy. We watched “102 minutes that changed America”. While watching this program I learned that the Twin Towers we were hit by two fully fueled aircrafts. The first plane hit the towers at 8:48 AM. It was an American Airline plane flight No.11. The second plane hit at 9:05 AM. That plane was from United Airlines. When the workers in the second tower felt the impact from the hit of the first tower they knew to immediately evacuate the building. When they arrived downstairs to the lobby they were told to go back to work that everything was ok. Some people decided not to listen and they left. Many of the people who stayed in the building died because they didn’t have enough time to escape. The American Airline plane hit the towers between the 93- 99th floors. Ten thousand gallons fuel ignited up the elevator shaft causing a lot of damage to the buildings. This is what caused the building to collapse. On that day 2,740 people lost their lives all because of Al-Quaeda’s plan. They decided to use airplanes as weapons. While another plane was also rerouted to the Twin Towers some passengers decided to fight back when the learned what was happening. On certain programs about the 9/11 attacks they said the terrorist abused the passengers on the plane. One passenger on the plane was shot while they flew in the air.
I feel bad for the people who died in the World Trade Center Attacks because they tried to escape but they just couldn’t make it. It was something no one expected to happen. The families who lost their loved ones, I feel sorry for them. I hope that they will always pray for and to them. The memorial was built to honor and respect all the people who lose their lives in this attack. Some people just couldn’t escape, some jumped out of windows from the 100th floor, some people died trying to help people escape from the building and many lost their mother, father, sons and daughters. The Memorial was built to honor them and is a symbol of the strength and unity of Americans so we “never forget” what happened.
In the past I have talked about the WTC Attack with my family and I wonder it was like to be there when it happened. This is what mom, dad shared with me.
“When the WTC attack happened I was pregnant with you and had to work a late shift. When your father I woke up he turned on the TV and said “The World Trade Center had collapsed!!” I was in the kitchen and could hear him clearly because he shouted it out. I didn’t pay it any mind because that was just something you saw in the movies. When I went back to the room the news repeated the footage over and over and over again. All I could do was sit there. Then immediately all I could do was think about your grandfather. He worked for PANYNJ and he was not home! So that only meant one thing. He was working at the site of this tragedy. I tried calling him but I didn’t get a response. Then I realized that your grandmother worked around the corner from the WTC and I tried to call her. But I failed because again, there was no response. At that point I decided I was not going to work that day until I found my family. It was hard to because the WTC held a major antennae that hosted the connection for most cell phones and with the damage all cell phones would just ring busy. As your father and I watched the news we actually saw your aunts, grandmother and grandfather on television and that is how we learned that they were ok. Your grandfather had just exited the building before it collapsed. You were safe in my belly and that point I didn’t want you to come out into this……”
Nicely written Joseph! I loved the fact that you were able to discuss your knowledge about the events that led up to the construction of the memorial, as well as share personal feelings about the event. You took the interview and made it your own. I enjoyed seeing how you took on the role as a narrator rather than interviewer! Awesome Job!
The world trade center was built because they wanted to make more room for the financial center. The center was then destroyed by a plane crash. Two of them were destroyed. Osama Bin Laden was the one who crashed the planes. Osama Bin Laden crashed the planes into the world trade centers because he was a terrorist, also because it was his religion. The meaning behind the world trade center is that they are tall buildings.
Vanessa-Did you ever go to the world trade center before? Mom-Yes I did, I even work there. Vanessa- Did you have any friends who were in the incident? Dad-Yes, I had two of them, but one died. They were Nigerians. Vanessa-How do you know about the incident that happened? Mom- I put on the news, and I saw every body screaming. That’s when they announced two planes crashed into the twin towers, the twin towers were crumbled in pieces. Since then workers had been working on re-building the two towers known as the twin towers.
Vanessa what is the purpose of the World Trade Memorial? That was the question you needed to answer. Please make your corrections to your response. Your mom was very fortunate not to have been working in the WTC at the time of this tragic event. Ms. Haigler
On September 11,2001, a tragic moment happened in New York City. Many people died by two airplanes. This event is called 911. this event caused a new building to be made. The World Trade Memorial Center was built. This memorial place was built to remember the people that we lost during this event. On September 11 2001. A very bad thing happen. Terrorists hijack the twin towers. It was very sad, most people died on this day and injured.
The meaning behind the memorial is to remember the lives lost in September 11 terrorists attack.
My uncle was home and in school when this tragic day of September 11, 2001 happened. First he was watching TV. When a breaking news came across the TV. He saw Terrorists hijack the twin towers. He was sad a little. He could not believe this happened. Then when he was going to school in Brooklyn he ask is dad what is that smoke coming from? His dad told him that’s the twin towers that u saw on the TV. Uncle was surprise of this tragic thing. He think to his self what kind of person would do this? When uncle got to school they had a fire trail. Then the principal told them to go home, but uncle did not go home by his self a teacher took him home. Ands that what happened.
Joshua: Where were you when the 9/11 incident happened? dad;At home in Trinidad watching it on TV Joshua: How did you hear the news? Early on the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 hijackers took control of four commercial airliners (two Boeing 757s and two Boeing 767s) en route to San Francisco or Los Angeles after takeoffs from Boston, Massachusetts, Newark, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.[3] Planes with long flights were intentionally selected for hijacking because they would be heavily fueled.[4] The four flights involved were: American Airlines Flight 11: Left Boston's Logan Airport at 7:59 a.m. enroute to Los Angeles with a crew of 11 and 76 passengers, not including five hijackers. The hijackers flew the plane into the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m. United Airlines Flight 175: Left Logan Airport at 8:14 a.m. enroute to Los Angeles with a crew of nine and 51 passengers, not including five hijackers. The hijackers flew the plane into the South Tower of the World Trade Center at 9:03 a.m. American Airlines Flight 77: Left Washington Dulles International Airport in Northern Virginia at 8:20 a.m. enroute to Los Angeles with a crew of six and 53 passengers, not including five hijackers. The hijackers flew the plane into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. United Airlines Flight 93: Left Newark International Airport at 8:42 a.m. enroute to San Francisco, with a crew of seven and 33 passengers, not including four hijackers. After the passengers revolted the hijackers crashed the plane into the ground near Shanksville, Pennsylvania at 10:03 a.m. Media coverage was intense during the attacks and aftermath, beginning moments after the first crash into the World Trade Center. Events United Airlines Flight 175 being flown into the south face of Two World Trade Center At 8:46 a.m., five hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the World Trade Center's North Tower (1 WTC), and at 9:03 a.m., another five hijackers crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower (2 WTC). Five hijackers flew American Airlines Flight 77 into the The Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. A fourth flight, United Airlines Flight 93, under the control of four hijackers, crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, southeast of Pittsburgh, at 10:03 a.m. after the passengers fought the hijackers. Flight 93's ultimate target is believed to have been either the Capitol or the White House. Flight 93's cockpit voice recorder revealed crew and passengers attempted to seize control of the plane from the hijackers after learning through phone calls that similarly hijacked planes had been crashed into buildings that morning. Once it became evident to the hijackers that the passengers might regain control of the plane, the hijackers rolled the plane and intentionally crashed it. On September 11, 2011 the World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists. It was a very scary time for New York and the United States. Since then we have never been the same.
I interviewed my mom who worked around the block from the NYC world trade center at that time. Me- Where were you the morning of the 9/11 attack? Mom- I was pulling into the Chambers St train station, on the train. She said the next thing they heard a rumble and the building next to it collapsed. She said there was a train leaving and she rode it to the other side of Manhattan. My mom said that there were people running for their lives trying to get on the train and it was very scary.
What happened at the world trade center is that there were planes with terrorists on them from Afghanistan. The planes crashed into the twin tours. 1,000s of people died from this situation. My mom was a recruiter and a lot of her clients did not survive. A lot of people watched this happen. It was not the first time that there was an attack. It was one of the first times that there were planes involved. A lot of police, fire fighters and emergency service workers died trying to save peoples lives. Cars got crushed and the people got stuck in trains. The twin tours are still being re-built and at least one building was built already. They built the memorial to remember the memory of innocent people who lost lives on that tragic day.
The memorial has all of the names of the people who died engraved in stone day so that they’re families and loved ones can come and visit. Nyla Calvert 401
How did your mom feel as a result of hearing the rumbling of the towers falling Nyla? Did your mom know anyone that was directly involved in this horrifc event? As an interviewer one questions should lead to others so that one has a full picture and understanding of the person your are speaking with? Continue this dialouge with your mom and add more information to your response. Ms. Haigler
My name is Tyler Clarke. I visited the place known for peace, The United Nations. I'm a magazine writer, what you will be reading is my response article on my little trip. When i entered the United Nations, i had to go through TWO! metal detectors. I had to put things that was metal on me into a fairly sized gray bucket, and i was able to take no pictures!
Anyways when i walked into the actual building, i saw so many beautiful sites. Now i saw alot of Chinese people and if i have my information right, that's a whole different story. When my tour guide came along i then had to put earphones on, which made me hear her all throughout the building except for the elevators, i was then informed that i was getting a private tour. The first thing that was presented was the five parts that makes the United Nations which are: General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, International Court Of Justice, Security Council, Truspeeshit Council, and Secretariat.
With all that being said, i had a great time and to tell the truth my favorite part of this trip was, when i learned about some underground weapons called landmines. They are very sensitive and as soon as activated and underground, it can blow up and you can die. Even now in our day if landmines are deactivated they are able to be activated again and still work.
What a creative writer you are Tyler C, I love how your personality shines through your writing. Be sure to always proofreader your posts before you publish them. The letter "I" should always be capitalized when it stands alone as a word. Also, take time out to read your post out-loud to make sure that is sound the way you want it to sound.
Everyone knows of the big conflict that occurred with the World Trade Center in NYC. On February 26, 1993 terrorist drove a truck packed with 1,100 lbs of explosives into the basement parking garage at the World Trade Center. Despite the size of the blast, it left crater 22 ft wide five stories deep, nearly 3,000 people were killed. Now that the event has occurred the towers were repaired, cleaned, and reopened in less than a month.
National September 11 Memorial is a tribute of remembrance and honor to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center site, near Shanksville, Pa., and at the Pentagon, as well as the six people killed in the World Trade Center bombing in February 1993.
What was your experience with nine eleven Ms. Burke? Sidia said "i was at work talking to my friend, which was at the site watching the planes crash into the towers, then the phone connection was cut off and i was scared because i did not know if my friend was ok". Luckily she later found out he was safe.
How do you feel about the injuries that occurred in nine eleven? Ms.Burke stated, "i don't know much about nine eleven but, i do think the lost of jobs and life's are extremely devastating. its also really bitter sweet that till this day people are hurt.
today's trip was the best, i had a blast. i sure stuffed my self........... anyway the sites we saw were amaizing and i wish i can do today all over again. i cant wait till our next trip
when we went to the wtmc i had an awesome time... i had extremly bog eyes looking at the pools and i had to wait 19 minutes after everyone got their food just to get my food. luckily the food was good.. i had somuch fun............................................................................................................................................. thank you mrs. brown and mrs. haigler
I had a great time on this trip. I felt bad because of the 2 bombings that happened. Adrianna how did you feel about seeing all the names of the people who had died? I read the name of the person that my parents knew who died on that tragic day. Her name was Melonie Moore. We ate at T.G.I.F. This was across the street from Madison Square Garden. This was a great feeling.
When I hear the word peace I think of a calm place with no fighting and arguments. We have visited the United Nations and the World Trade Center Memorial. The World Trade Center Memorial was a peaceful sight. The United Nations is a place that makes sure there is world peace.
My thoughts and feelings about the actual spot where the towers stood were amazing. It was also scary because I cannot imagine being 101 levels up high in a building that tall like the Twin Towers. When I read the names of the people who died it made me feel sad. My parents had a friend who died that day and I was able to see her name on the memorial wall. It had to be very depressing for so many people.
The continuous flow of water to me represents all the tears that many people have cried, and maybe still cry for all the people who lost their lives on that tragic morning. So many innocent people who just thought it was just a regular working day, and maybe a small fire had no idea they would never see their families again.
Today the United Nations which is made up of 193 countries come together creating laws that will help keep all countries and nations communicating together peacefully. They talk to each other and try to work out any problems in a non-violent way. If I was a peacekeeper for the United Nations and was meeting with children from various countries interested in world peace my plan would be for us to have a meet and greet meal.
After we meet and greet each other and share some friendly conversation we would discuss our concerns and problems. Then I would suggest that everyone from each country come up with one peaceful suggestion on how to get along and maintain world peace. We would put all the suggestions and ideas together and create a peace pact.
Then when a country has a problem we would go back to the peace pact to see if there is a solution for what they may think is a problem. Hopefully this will help solve any problems since all the countries came together to create this peace pact
Tyler your response was detailed and well thought out. What would be one or two suggestions you would offer to your peers as a way of maintaining peace in the peace pact? Please include. I'm sorry that your parents lost a friend in this tragic event. Your thoughts about the running water representing the tears that are shed by loved ones is an interesting observation.
My definition for peace is love and respect. The U.N. and World Trade Center Memorial was made for peace. One reason the U.N. was made for peace is that some people had a terrible life. They did not have any thing to eat or wear. The Memorial was made for peace because of the terrible thing that happen on 911 and if u go to the Memorial to see the North and south pool u can tell that the pool was made for peace.
When I went to the Memorial it was sad seeing the North and south pool. It was sad because they showed where the twin towers were. It was also sad because a lot of people died on this day and there lives did not go on. I think the reason the North and South pool was build is to show people where the Twin Towers were and to show the people who died in this terrible attack.
I would try to help those countries that are in a bad condition. I will make a website with math quizzes and every time u get an answer correct it makes a donation to the country that needs help. I will also send money, clothes, and food, and drinks and I will built houses for the people to live in. And that’s what I would do.
What suggestions would you give to your peers if you were a peacekeeper conduting a meeting with children from other countries on world peace? How do you envision love and respect for all to be modeled among people. Please include this information. I agree that peace is about loving and respecting one another, how should people go about doing this?
Peacemakers made a lot of peace in the world. They help many people get the respect and peace they need. In my opinion, world peace is respect and tolerance around the world. Now that there are peacemakers, more and more people are building this peace to help the world. I know the objective of some peacemakers and organizations, is to help people around the world. As I go on the internet, I observed how some organizations make the best for people. For example, the United Nations and the 9/11 Memorial are a big part in world peace.
The United Nations is a great example for being a peacemaker. The United Nations have helped the world in peace since January 1, 1942. They have a growing organization that helps people around the world. As my experience, I have gone to the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. I observed how they display their features and pictures. On the day I have gone to the United Nations, my fellow classmates and I viewed an important presentation by the employees of the United Nations. They were talking about an event that happened in the past. By knowledge, I know that the United Nations help millions because of the decisions and complications they make for the world. The United Nations is also a great example for being a peacemaker because of their important parts to help people. The United Nations provide many things for people around the world. Peacekeepers are apart of the United Nations. Of the observation, I know that they have a big part in world peace because they keep peace. If I was a peacekeeper, I would speak to the children and their families to hear their comments. I would ask them questions similar to, “How was your reaction when you first got the things you needed?” I would also ask them, “Do you feel good about what you get?” I would ask them many more questions due to the answers they give me. The 9/11 Memorial is also a good example for a peacemaker for many reasons. Even though the 9/11 Memorial is a small area, it means a millions to people. I also went to the 9/11 Memorial too. I sighted the area where the World Trade Center stood before 9/11. There are now waterfalls in the areas. I think the flows of water represent the memories of the victims of 9/11 and the 1993 bombing attack. Their memories will always flow in people’s life. It is very emotional to see how people dealt with tourist attacks. The template next to the pool means so much to people and it makes me want to cry. The United Nations and the 9/11 Memorial are great examples of peacemakers. They make people ecstatic and joyful. I thank peacemakers for all they have done.
What suggestions would you give to your peers on how to achieve world peace, if you conducted a meeting with children from various countries? Please include this information. Kavian your definiton of world peace shows you have a clear understanding of the importance of caring for the rights of others.
Tyler Bond Class 4-402 World Trade Center Assignment
On September 11, 2001 The United States of America suffered a tradegy. The Twin Towers which is also known as the World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists. Thousands of people died on this day. Two airplanes flew into the Twin Towers and the buildings fell with lots of people still inside of it. Many years after this a memorial was created for all the people who died on that sad morning. This memorial is to honor so many people who lost their lives. Every year on September 11th families gather there to remember their relatives.
Interview: My dad Mr. Ramond Bond Sr. 1. What were you doing on this tragic day? Mr. Bond: I was driving the B11 bus on fifth avenue and 49th Street. All the customers who boarded the bus was asking if I heard what happened at the World Trade Center.
2. Did you know anyone who was involved in the event first hand, such as a victim, or emergency service worker etc? Mr. Bond: Yes one of my best friends worked in the area and he saw all the people trying to escape and some people even jumped out of the window. It was so unreal. Almost like something out of a movie. He also knew a close family members sister who perished in the World Trade Center. She worked on the 82nd floor. She was on the phone with her brother and told him she was on her way out but the buildings fell and she never made it out. Our cousin Shamika Pugh is a New York City Policer Officer and was assigned there everyday to help search for the missing people and she saw so many body parts. It was really really sad. My mother in law, Tyler's grandma worked at Swiss Bank at 222 Broadway and said the smell was so bad it was undescribeable.
3. What happened after the World Trade Center was attacked? Mr. Bond: People from all over were very sad. It was a total shock for everyone. We knew after this that there would be a war.
4. Did the United States ever get the people responsible for the attacks? Mr. Bond: Yes, the person responsible for this was Osama Bin Laden and he was recently killed by the United States military from orders that were given by our President Barack Obama.
5. Did you help in any way on that day? Mr. Bond: Yes, buses from my depot drove as close as possible to the site to help get firemen, policemen, EMS and many civilians to and from the area.
Project Boost Assignment: Peacemakers Then and Now
My definition of peace is a place of freedom and a world without war. The United Nations and the World Trade Center Memorial both represent this in their own ways. The United Nations represents peace because it prevents war in different countries and states. The World Trade Center Memorial is a symbol of peace because it is a reminder of the people who died in the tragic event, hopefully showing them that this should never happen again. After seeing the memorial, I was very melancholy when I learned about the event, including after knowing that my mother’s friend, Catherine Robinson died in the horrible attack. On the bricks beside the two pools of water laid other names such as Christina Sunga, John Robert Cruz, and Gordon McCannel Aamoth Jr., giving their families a place to show their respects. I think that both the North and South pools of water in the memorial represent the people who once shed their tears on the bombing attack and for those who still might be crying today. Americans should have learned from the 1993 bombing attack that the terrorist would not give up since their first attempt failed, they would try again. Americans were too laid backed and was caught off guard when the terrorist launched their second attach in 2001, this would not happen again. All American have their eyes and ears opened for anything suspicious to report to the authorities. This is exactly what happened in Times Square when a vendor reported a suspicious SUV that was left unattended in the busy streets with explosive bombs about to go off. This saved a lot of people’s lives. As said before, the United Nations also tries to prevent wars. They make sure of it by sending out peacekeepers around the world to reinsure peace and unity. As a peacekeeper, I would create peace by getting kids involved in helping to donate food and clothing to those that are in need. This can be done through asking their schools and families to assist in a food and clothing drive. I would also show people that we are all alike in many ways and that no one is more or less or needs more or less.
My project boost trips have been exciting. I went to the “United Nations” and “The World Trade Memorial site”. I have noticed that both places symbolize peace. The purpose of these places it to show us we want to live in a world of peace. No wars and booming. The whole meaning of world peace is bringing peace to the world. I don’t want to live in a place without peace. I want to live in a world where I can go outside and play with my friends and go to mall and buy stuff for me and my family. After going to these places I noticed that peace is important to a lot of people. Seeing where the Twin Towers were broke my heart because those people didn’t deserve to die. The purpose of the Memorial site is to remember the lives that were lost on 9/11 and to show the rebuilding of peace to the world. As I visited this site I had I very peaceful time. My friends and I didn’t take the memorial for a joke because we knew that this was a place not to laugh and play around. The names were bordered around the waterfall because they wanted to name the people that died from the planes or in the difference places in the towers. This tragedy leads to the promoting of peace because lives were lost, people were hurt, and the towers fell down. The purpose of the United Nations is to ensure peace and corporation between world nations and to help people that are in need like to earthquake in Haiti. When I went to the U .N. I didn’t imagine it to be like that. I was so surprised. When I entered into the building of United Nations I didn’t enter any kind of territory. I entered in an International Territory. I remember at the U.N. I saw a poster that said “education is the most powerful weapon that can be used”. When I heard that I was considered it as no laughing matter. Out of all the posters I keep focus on that one the whole time. That saying means if you don’t have education you have no knowledge. So the U.N. helps in educating knowledge to people and kids around the world. The “United Nations” and “The World Trade Memorial Site” symbolize peace to people around the world who need it. I believe that these places bring peace to a lot of people do you think so?
World Peace World peace is an ideal of freedom. The U.N was a place where a lot of peace was held. People in blue caps and blue uniforms helped many people who needed it, like Haiti when the disaster happened(earthquake).Just like the U.N, there were people who came to help the people who were in the moment when the building was crashing. Fire fighters came, Police, ambulance, they were all peace makers. World peace is an idea of planetary non-violence. These places are examples of peace because they were people who were actually helping the people who were in either a natural disaster or bomb firing or someone is probably a murderer, these people (fire fighters, ambulance, and police) are a big help. Seeing on TV, made me feel guilty. Even though I was not the one who did the bombing, I feel that those innocent people deserved a better life, and would have lived a little longer. Gordon Jr, Marina Rose, Andrew Abate, Vincent Abate, Laurence Able, William F, Richard Aceto, Father Mychal Judge, these are all the people that died in the bomb attack. The roles of the U.N is that they help people, when there is a earthquake, hurricane, or a tornado, the U.N people in blue uniform comes to save the day.
For me World Peace is creating peace around the World where everyone is involved to be peaceful to each other and everyone. In the United Nations peacekeepers go around the World by keeping peace their also by giving food and water and supplies. The U.N. helps the World get peace instead of war. At the 9/11 World Trade Center Memorial Center seeing the spots where the buildings stood made me think this must have been huge buildings, because seeing those names of the people that passed away made me just speechless. I never knew that there was a 1993 bombing attack but now I do. When I looked it up I was thinking whoever wanted to destroy the Twin Towers they must have really planned out way before. Thinking about this made me really think that the World Trade Center was a sign of peace and faith. I think the water flowing through is showing all the people that died are sinking into a better place. This overall experience learning about the U.N. and the World Trade Center made me think what can I do to bring peace? How can I help? It all leads up to us doing what’s right by bring peace.
On our recent school trips, my group had the pleasure of visiting both the United Nation (U.N.) and the Twin Towers Memorial Site. These two locations both represent peace in our world because within them over a hundred countries are represented. They symbolize a brotherhood between nations that has a bright future ahead. The purpose of our trip to the United Nations was to learn about how it maintains peace in our world. The U.N. promotes peace because it acts as a mediator between nations in conflict. This gives them a private and respectful option to resolve matters instead of having to publicly display their disputes. When I first arrived at the U.N., I felt curious about the things that I would see. Once I entered the building I saw many types of different people representing different cultures and countries. I thought to myself, “These are the people who ask questions and give suggestions to keep peace in our world. “ The thought of that task seems very complicated. The purpose of our trip to the Twin Tower Memorial Site was to learn about how a tragedy like the 9/11 attacks ruined so many lives but strengthened the bond of Americans. Innocent people were killed; some tried to save lives and help where they could. Most importantly numerous people lost their loved ones. The Twin Tower Memorial Site was built to remind us to “Never Forget” this tragedy and to allow those who lost loved ones a place to visit the last place of life for their loved ones. Many people visit the site to remember those they had lost and bring peace to their thoughts. Others visit the site to pay respect and remember that this tragedy made us a strong nation again. Visiting these two important sites was very interesting. When you visit a place in person it’s different from researching it from far away. When you are at the site you can see and feel the effects that it has on people. At the U.N. people were trying hard to get work done and were mostly pleasant. At WTC Memorial Site the people there were very sad. It made me feel sad too. I don’t know how I would have handled loosing someone one I love. That must be very hard. The purpose of the running waters is to remind people that the memory of those lost in the tragedy will never be forgotten. That was a great idea! Waters are known to bring calmness to life like when you sit at the beach and watch the waves wash the sand away. It never stops. The wave always come back and refreshes the sand every time. That’s what the U.N. and the World Trade Center Memorial Site is for many people, an ongoing peaceful wave of action.
The United Nations promotes peace across the nation and connects countries together to help save lives. They might disagree about law and values but, the are able to come together to make this world better and stop war, hunger and supply all the other things that other countries needs like a school in a box to educate children who can’t have an education like me because their country is poor.
I didn’t get to attend the WTC trip because I was very sick but the research I did for the report and speaking with my mother about how the attack happened and what I can see from the internet. The memorial is open to people all over the world to see and remember those people who lost their lives. It shows people that innocent people died because of another country mad at the United States. It shows us and people from other countries that it wasn’t fair and how badly people can get hurt when there is no peace and other people are unhappy. The memorial and the WTC site can teach people that violence is not the answer and peace is safer. The water flowing to me shows all the tears and sadness from the 9/11 attack and the 1993 bombing being washed away for fresh new water to bring happiness. I wish I was able to see it for myself and feel the names engraved in stone and see all the things that they had displayed in the memorial because it would have been more real for me but I am happy my mom made it home that day and that she wasn’t another name engraved in stone and that is enough for me to remember that day forever.
Part II
I would meet with children all over the world and encourage everyone to join with me to develop a plan for peaceful relations among countries. I would first ask the children what they need and what are the un peaceful things in their country now. We would make a list of all things they need by country and start working with each country at a time to change the things that they feel are not peaceful and focus on how we can change it turn it around. The first thing that we would try to figure out is how to stop wars and stop the children from fighting in it. We would try to discuss how we can plan fun things to do that would make the people more happy with each other and happy with other countries. We would build more planes to drop more food boxes to make sure the children and the people are eating. We would talk about how to get all of the evil people out and make them take classes on peace and happiness and show them videos or things that other countries did to each other and destroyed their countries, homes and killed their children. I would hope that it would be an example to them of what could happen to their country. I would talk about how we could give every country that doesn’t have schools a school in a box for children and adults. We have to make the adults happy to because they are the ones fighting the wars and fighting with other countries. We would assign a child from each country to visit and make sure that the right people are getting the food and education and not the bad people. We would discuss and plan on how build outside and inside playgrounds so that the kids can be kids and have places to play and be free. We would discuss how to send more Dr’s and build more hospitals to take of all of the sick and injured people. I think that by taking care of everyone and making sure they are well, eating and they have the same things that the other countries have the world would be more peaceful because most of the wars right now are countries fighting for peace and equal rights. So, we the children would figure out how to do that by making everyone happy & well. Maybe if the countries see that the children are trying everyone will join in and make the world come together and be a better place.
Cervelle Vidal 5-502 “Peace… it’s up to us” That’s what we need to think about. Once again thank you President Barack Obama for selecting me Cervelle to be a Junior Diplomat for the astonishing United Nations. Thank you for gathering here today to listen to me advise with you some ideas on how I assume we can all work as one to bring World peace to the Earth. Not just us Junior Diplomats everyone from everywhere to make this dream that has been dreamt for years to come true this year. If we can believe and never give up then this project for World Peace will be dream come true. Let me share with you my World peace project ideas: The United Nations finest Peacekeepers will go around the World and deliver food, clothing, and goods to help the poor survive. Help the needy children with clothing, education, food, and shelter We could work on the right and peaceful things together instead of the wrong and unpeaceful things We could discuss what we need to do to make World Peace happen and make the Earth a better place to visit or live Based on these reasons the World can have peace, have educated children and adults which would make better World. The journey to peace begins this year right now this moment let’s work together to make this dream true! What can we do to bring even more peace? Thank you for listening I really appreciate it and always remember “Peace… it’s up to us”
Today we are gathered here to talk about ways that we can bring peace to the world. Some ideas I had is everybody going to each country to talk about world peace, also each country will come together and think of idea’s that they as a country can bring world peace, and to be respectful to each other. Everyone can go to each country and talk about world peace by giving a speech like President Obama. In this speech you will talk about how U.N wants to bring more peace to the world. Example: “My name is Teneil Meyer and I have come here today to talk about world peace. In places today we have peace and the United Nations are peace makers. They help bring peace to places, but they want to give more peace to people and places over the world and they want your help to bring peace to the world”. That’s a way you can start your speech. So the whole idea of the speech is to talk about world peace. Each country will come together and think of idea’s that they as a country can bring world peace by having a meeting with your country and let them voice their opinion. Then they will use the opinions to construct peace, they have to be positive opinions. Before the Jr. Diplomats leave they have to someone that can in control of that position and that will continue to help bring peace to their country and world. The Jr. Diplomats have to be able to talk to them and help them. We can also help them be respectful to each other by knowing manners. You can show manners by videos because I feel like video’s show some of the reasons for respect. I believe that respect starts from the birthday place and it will continue from there. If you need to put a child or adult that is YOUNGER than you it is ok. Just have a talk with kind word not bad words. DON’T disrespect an adult that is older than you. You will just be rude and we want to bring peace to the world not rudeness. These are some ways that I think that can help bring peace to the world. If you have any other options please come to me and we will talk about it. Thank you and may god bless you and your family. Have a nice day .
Welcome my fellow Jr. Diplomats; Before I begin, I would like to thank President Obama for selecting me for this honorable position. I promise to do my best and I will not let you down. We are gathered here today to review and come up with ways we can help our fallen countries. I have come up with a few ways we can help to promote peace. I have recently visited the country of Africa among some other countries. Before I share my ideas to help let me just explain what I was able to see with my own eyes. In Africa the living conditions are very unfortunate .The infrastructure of their homes are not suitable. The roofing materials of their homes are rusted and they are using mud as a means of correcting unstable homes. If there is any type of natural disaster or even bad weather that could be harmful for many families and possibly leave them homeless. The street is filled with garbage and debris everywhere and is forced to be a playground for young children. Children should be able to play in a clean and safe environment. They play in the sewage as well which is what contributes to these children getting seriously ill or dying. There are many diseases running rampant through Africa. Diseases like Typhoid, Malaria, and HIV/AIDS. Without adequate living conditions, education and employment getting rid of these diseases will not be possible without our help. Something as simple as taking medicine is rare. They will continue to die and produce orphans if we do not help or send aid. There are many orphans on the streets because their parents died of diseases that went untreated. Others were addicted to drugs and the children were neglected. Most of the children did not have clothes and the ones that did have their clothes were severely ravaged. My heart went out to these families, it was really hard to see and that’s when I realized that we must do something to help these people. But that was only one place. I had couple more locations to go. My next location was India. ( part1)
While visiting India I thought everyone lived in homes sort of like mini versions of the Taj Mahal. I was sadly mistaken. The conditions in India are horrendous. Families struggle to survive and I feel that they shouldn’t have to struggle. The roves of their homes are sinking in; they can collapse at any moment. How can you raise a family in these conditions? Where is the running water? In order to brush their teeth they have to use twigs from trees. Twigs remain outside on a tree where animals rest and crawl. If you needed a toothbrush would you choose to use a twig from your local tree? I don’t think that you would. So why should they? When they are ready to clean themselves they pour water out of a bucket over their head. After the first pouring the water is recycled. How clean are they if they are bathing in their own dirt? Would you take a bath with just one bucket of water knowing that the water used would have to be recycled? The very thought of these living conditions is nauseating. Here are some ways I feel we could help assist these people improve their living conditions with minimal cost to the federal government. • We could organize a way for people to donate old clothes. People could deliver clothes that they don’t wear or cannot fit to a location near their homes. This would be at no cost to them because this would be clothes that most people would just throw away. They could also leave shoes, sneakers, jackets, and any item of clothing they choose. Maybe we could even get a few volunteers to offer to sew up any clothing with holes in it. o A big problem I saw was a need for medicine and products to keep people sanitary. Maybe we could even reach out to a soap company like DOVE or Colgate to donate a couple boxes of soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes so that they can clean themselves efficiently. o The Pharmaceutical companies should also get involved with maybe donating penicillin to help with the mild disease. It’s not a lot but every little bit helps. o A day of Service can be created where on that day annually people come together to offer donations in money, food, baby items, medicine and other necessities.
In conclusion, we should help these people live a better life. This cannot be done with a single person. We must come together as a community to help them all. These people are living in slums like they are animals. Can you imagine yourself living in these same conditions? If your answer is no then you have a heart. Have a heart and help these people. Help me; Help Them, Help Us, Unite! Spread the word; share their story with as many people as you can. If people don’t know what’s happening in these poor countries then help will never get there. Yes! This is a problem that cannot be fixed overnight but if you believe in yourself and our cause then anything is possible. Now I will open up the floor for any questions and suggestions.
Adrianna Morris What is the definition of peace? Discuss how both of these places are examples of symbols of peace. The definition of peace is freedom from disturbance and harmony in personal relations. Both the World Trade Memorial Center and the United Nations are symbols of peace because they all show obligations to the many people that died and to show appreciation to the many people who made peace something shared all across the world. What were your thoughts and feelings about this experience? What do you think the continuous flow of water represents? Also, think about the roles the U.N. plays in maintaining peace across the world. My thoughts and feelings about both experiences were wow, all of these people had died in a very horrendous event and how many people actually brought peace to the world. Also, the fact that I had the opportunity to go to those amazing places and learn lots of new interesting things. I think that the continuous flow of water represents the all the people falling from the buildings into disappearance (death). The names around the surface represents the people that died in the horrific attack. The roles that the U.N plays in maintaining peace across the world are: employ tools ranging from mediation to the dispatch of peacekeeping forces; work to heal the economic and social causes of war; provide a framework for the peaceful settlement of disputes, a means of defusing conflicts before they begin; and promote peace through its development of a growing body of international law, as well as through development assistance. Those are very good ways to maintain peace. Think through the lens of a United Nations peacekeeper and you have scheduled a meeting with children from various countries who are interested in world peace. The topic of the meeting is to develop a plan for peaceful relations among the countries. How will you go about creating peace among all nations? The way I would create peace among all nations is to prepare a march where all people against war would march until people would all become one. Like the negro national anthen says "Lets us march on, til victory is one!" So they say, so it must be done.
Mrs. Brown, I downloaded Smile Box on my computer and using it to make family scrapbooks and I am going to use it to make a scrapbook of all my friends and teachers at P.S 36 so I can remember them. I think you should use this in the yearbook. or maybe you can make a digital Yearbook. That would be cool

On January 27, 2012, I went to the United Nations (U.N) with Project B.O.O.S.T. I have learned a lot of things about the United Nations. Here are some interesting things I have learned. There are only five countries that won World War II. Those countries are Russia, America, China, United Kingdom, and France. There are six organizations of the United Nations. You have to think of it like it is your hand. Your palm is the General Assembly. Your index finger is the Secetariat. Your middle finger is Economic and Social Council. Your ring finger is the Trusteenship Council. Your pinkie is the International Court of Justice. The only one that is not in New York is the International Court of Justice. The International Cort of Justice is in Europe. At this moment the head of the U.N is Ban Ki- Moon. He has been the head for 2 terms. Each term is 5 years. The U.N helps countries in need. They do not have army’s they have something called peace-keepers. Peace-keepers are the people that come in and keep peace between countries. For example if India had a fight with South Africa and they sign a treaty to stop fighting the peace-keepers come in to keep the peace.
Hello, all readers of the TFTP. How are you today. Well just last week I went to a very special place. Can you the readers of the TFTP figure it out. Well guess what you guys probably couldn't guess unless you saw me there. I went to the U.N. The U.N is also known as the United Nations. It is really interesting. I thought that I will never find myself there. Well now I regret it saying that. Well, when I went last Friday it was a special day. Do you know why that day was SO special? Well try to guess. Well whatever you guessed you probably are wrong because you probably didn’t get the answer I am about to give. The answer to me question is that it was the anniversary of World War ll. Can you believe that World War ll was probably more than 101 years ago? Well, let me tell you what the United Nations is about. The United Nations is basically a organization that was created after World War ll. They made it to prevent a World War lll. There are six parts to the United Nations. There is the General Assembly, the Secretariat, the, the, the, and the. Did you know when you enter the U.N you have entered an international territory. That means that when you pass through that big black gate you are no longer in American territory. Pretty Cool right? The U.N helps prevent anything bad from happening. For example they take landmines out of the ground and they deactivate them. It is possible for them to activate it again but that would be going against what they are for. At this moment the Head of the United Nations is Ban Ki-moon. He is from Korea. He has passed two terms. One term is 5 years. Well, I don’t want to tell you guys everything for you not to go. So go to the website and find some cool stuff or better yet actually go!
September 11, 2001 was a tragic day. It would have been a tragic day for me too ever though I wasn’t born yet. Well the planes that crashed into the Twin Towers my mom was supposed to be on one of the planes. I was only 8 months old and wasn’t born yet. I would have died and my mother too. My father wasn’t coming with us because he had to stay with my sister and my sister had to go to school. Thanks to traffic in Haiti my mom didn’t make the flight. Thank God. Though neither of my parents remembers what happened that day except missing the flight. I found one of my uncles that remembered so I interviewed him. Here is how it went: Aissa: Where were you during 9/11? Joel: I was on the train on my way to work. Aissa: Did anybody you know worked in the buildings? Joel: Yes. He was an old colleague of mine. Aissa: Did he die in the building? Joel: Yes he did. For his death they made and named a scholarship after him. Aissa: Do you know what building he was in? Joel: I believe he was in the second building. Aissa: How did you know 9/11 happened? Joel: When I came out the train station I saw a lot of fire fighters car and planes above and a lot of police cars going to the same direction? Aissa: Have you ever gone to the 9/11 Memorial? Joel: I have once on my way to work. Aissa: If you had one thing to say to the victims what would you say? Joel: I would most likely say how I am sorry that they died for a unimportant reason and that they shall always be remembered in everyone’s heart. Aissa: If you had one thing to say to Osama Bin Laden what would you say? Joel: I would say things about how what he did infected not only his life and other people’s lives, and ask what does he have against America that he has to kill thousands of people for and crash not only one but two buildings that were important and that was expensive to make because they had a special design for it. Aissa: If you were in the second building while the first building crashed what would you do? Joel: After I heard the crash then I would have ran all the way outside even though if I was on the top floor to save my life and scream to get everyone to evacuate. Aissa: Did you go to your colleague’s funeral? Joel: I did and I helped his mother cope. Aissa: Did you ever go to the Twin Towers? Joel: I am not sure but I think I did to visit my colleague. Aissa: What did you do after the second building crash? Joel: I was in amazement. For me it felt like the whole world just stopped for a full minute in amazement with me and our heartbeats just stopped. Aissa: When someone says 9/11 or September 11 or September 11, 2001 what first comes to your mind? Joel: The words that go through my mind is: tragic, colleague died, Twin Towers, and police, fire fighter, air forces. That was the interview. September 11, 2001 was a tragic day. Innocent lives were lost. September 11, 2001 is deep in our souls because that is one of the most tragic events that have happened. I can’t even define that day because you just can’t. There is a deep feeling inside and you just can’t get the words to gather it all together. Osama Bin Laden was a selfish person. His “friends” died from following his orders. Innocent people died because they followed his orders. If he was really your friend and if you were really smart then you would not have risked your life and killed yourself because your friend told you to. He might have said it was for the country. Guess what! It was only for himself. Osama Bin Laden didn’t even have the courage, the bravery to do it himself and be on one of the planes. He was smart enough to know that he would’ve died. All I have to say right now is that if anyone doesn’t remember the tragedy of 9/11 then they should be ashamed. If they don’t care about 9/11 they should be ashamed.
What is the definition of peace? There are many different definitions of peace. One definition of peace is being quiet and nobody is disturbing you. The other definition of peace is, when a friend pushes you and you push them back it begins a conflict. An adult comes to calm you down. The adult helps you make peace with the friend so that way there is no more conflict between you and your friend. This definition of peace is similar to what the United Nations and the 9/11 Memoiral Center is trying to tell everyone. We should not start conflict we should always have peace. What were your thoughts and feelings about this experience? What do you think the continuous flow of water represents? When we went to 9/11 I was depressed but trying not to show it. I am devastated that so many people died on that day. When I saw the water I knew exactly what it meant, to me at least. To me it meant that the water was the rubble from the building falling down onto the people. I am grateful because I could have died on that day too. My mom was supposed to be on that plane that crashed, and I was still in her stomach as a baby almost not having a chance to be in this world. Think through the lens of a United Nations peacekeeper and you have scheduled a meeting with children from various countries who are interested in world peace. The topic of the meeting is to develop a plan for peaceful relations among the countries. How will you go about creating peace among all nations? My idea would be to gather the ambassadors, presidents, kings, queens, anybody that is responsible for the well-being of their country. I would sit them down and see why they are fighting. They would tell me and I would come up with a plan that satisfies every ones needs.
Nelson Mandela fought for the rights of the South African black people, he wanted to end apartheid known as racial segregation where black people were treated different from the white people. He is one of the most famous peacemakers of South Africa and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for his work in the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new democratic South Africa.
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was born in Transkei, South Africa on July 18, 1918, he belonged to the Tembu Tribe. He attended University College of Fort Hare and University of Witwatersrand where he studied law. Mandela joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1944 and was involved in resistance against the ruling National Party’s apartheid policies after 1948. He was on trial for treason in 1956-1961 and was acquitted in 1961. The ANC party was banned and Nelson Mandela went underground. He formed a military wing within the ANC and suggested the use of violent tactics. Tension grew with the apartheid regime and black people were killed by police in the Sharpeville massacre. Mandela was eventually arrested in 1962 and charged with sabotage and attempting to violently overthrow the government. He conducted his own defense in the Rivonia court room and used the stand to convey his beliefs about democracy, freedom and equality. “I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepare to die,” He said. Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment from 1964 to 1982.
Nelson Mandela reputation grew steadily during his years in prison. He was accepted as the most significant black leader in South Africa and became a symbol of resistance as the anti-apartheid movement grew stronger. Mandela refused to trade his political position for his freedom. A worldwide campaign was launched to release Mandela. The world community tightened the sanctions first imposed on South Africa in 1967 against the apartheid regime. The pressure produced results and Nelson Mandela was released from prison on February 11, 1990.
Nelson Mandela continued where he left off striving to attain the goals he had set out almost four decades earlier. In 1991, at the first national conference of the ANC held inside South Africa after the organization had been banned, Mandela was elected President of the ANC. In 1994, for the first time in South Africa’s history, all races voted in democratic elections and Mandela was overwhelmingly elected president. Nelson Mandela made many changes to South Africa during his presidency until he retired in 1999. Mandela went on to become an advocate for a variety of social and human rights organizations including an ambassador for the fight against AIDS. After 27 years of prison, Mandela emerged to become South Africa’s first black president and to play a leading role in the drive for peace in other places of conflict, he’s truly a peacemaker.

Joshua You know and I know you could have added more details because the tour guide said a lot of things. think back to the trip
DeleteThanks Joshua, next add more details.
ReplyDeleteAmazing trip just amazing!

it was
DeleteHello my name is Teneil Meyer and I am going to tell u about the amazing trip I had at the United Nations.
DeleteThen our tour guide came and she gave us a sticker that said “ UNITED NATIONS GUIDED TOURS”.

Hello Teneil,
DeleteAfter reading your post, I can tell that you really enjoyed yourself. I like the way you recounted the events of the day by using sequence words. I also can appreciate the way in which your use of details helped to paint a picture of all the sights you saw and experiences you had.
Next time I want you to be aware of your grammar. There are a few mistakes in your post like: "u" instead of writing "you."
Also, don't introduce what you are going to introduce. In other words cut the first sentence, and simply make a statement!
Example:
Going to the United Nations was an awesome experience! (introduction)
I am so grateful to have had an opportunity like this and I will never forget it for as long as I live! (closing)
ok i will do that next next time

World Trade Memorial
Adrianna,
DeleteYou showed great insight as to why the World Trade Memorial was constructed.

World Trade Center Memorial
Your response was informative Cameron. Your mom was lucky that her office was not housed in the WTC. I'm sorry for the loss of her friend. Ms. Haigler
DeleteCameron your writing was so intresting.Your mom knew a friend who worked in the second building. That is so unfortunate. You did a excellent job.

Mrs. Brown
ReplyDeleteWhen the workers in the second tower felt the impact from the hit of the first tower they knew to immediately evacuate the building.
DeleteI loved the fact that you were able to discuss your knowledge about the events that led up to the construction of the memorial, as well as share personal feelings about the event. DeleteThe world trade center was built because they wanted to make more room for the financial center.
ReplyDeleteVanessa-Did you ever go to the world trade center before?
Ms. Haigler

Early on the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 hijackers took control of four commercial airliners (two Boeing 757s and two Boeing 767s) en route to San Francisco or Los Angeles after takeoffs from Boston, Massachusetts, Newark, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.[3] Planes with long flights were intentionally selected for hijacking because they would be heavily fueled.[4]
The four flights involved were:
American Airlines Flight 11: Left Boston's Logan Airport at 7:59 a.m. enroute to Los Angeles with a crew of 11 and 76 passengers, not including five hijackers.

At 8:46 a.m., five hijackers crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the World Trade Center's North Tower (1 WTC), and at 9:03 a.m., another five hijackers crashed United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower (2 WTC).

ReplyDeleteOn September 11, 2011 the World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists. It was a very scary time for New York and the United States. Since then we have never been the same.
ReplyDeleteI interviewed my mom who worked around the block from the NYC world trade center at that time.

ReplyDeleteMy name is Tyler Clarke.
ReplyDeleteAnyways when i walked into the actual building, i saw so many beautiful sites.

World Trade Center, NYC
ReplyDeleteEveryone knows of the big conflict that occurred with the World Trade Center in NYC.

Peace Then and Now Project Boost Assignment
When I hear the word peace I think of a calm place with no fighting and arguments. We have visited
the United Nations and the World Trade Center Memorial. The World Trade Center Memorial was a peaceful
sight. The United Nations is a place that makes sure there is world peace.
My thoughts and feelings about the actual spot where the towers stood were amazing. It was also scary
because I cannot imagine being 101 levels up high in a building that tall like the Twin Towers. When I read
the names of the people who died it made me feel sad. My parents had a friend who died that day and I was
able to see her name on the memorial wall. It had to be very depressing for so many people.
The continuous flow of water to me represents all the tears that many people have cried, and maybe still cry
for all the people who lost their lives on that tragic morning. So many innocent people who just thought it was just
a regular working day, and maybe a small fire had no idea they would never see their families again.
Today the United Nations which is made up of 193 countries come together creating laws that will help keep all
countries and nations communicating together peacefully. They talk to each other and try to work out any problems in
a non-violent way. If I was a peacekeeper for the United Nations and was meeting with children from various countries
interested in world peace my plan would be for us to have a meet and greet meal.
After we meet and greet each other and share some friendly conversation we would discuss our concerns and problems.
Then I would suggest that everyone from each country come up with one peaceful suggestion on how to get along and
maintain world peace. We would put all the suggestions and ideas together and create a peace pact.
Then when a country has a problem we would go back to the peace pact to see if there is a solution for what they may
think is a problem. Hopefully this will help solve any problems since all the countries came together to create this peace
pact
Tyler your response was detailed and well thought out. What would be one or two suggestions you would offer to your peers as a way of maintaining peace in the peace pact? Please include. I'm sorry that your parents lost a friend in this tragic event. Your thoughts about the running water representing the tears that are shed by loved ones is an interesting observation.
DeleteI like how you used vocabulary words in your writing.
DeleteMy definition for peace is love and respect. The U.N. and World Trade Center Memorial was made for peace. One reason the U.N. was made for peace is that some people had a terrible life. They did not have any thing to eat or wear.
ReplyDeleteThe Memorial was made for peace because of the terrible thing that happen on 911 and if u go to the Memorial to see the North and south pool u can tell that the pool was made for peace.
ReplyDeleteI like the writing! Please write a little more. Also you are missing things.
DeleteWhat suggestions would you give to your peers if you were a peacekeeper conduting a meeting with children from other countries on world peace? How do you envision love and respect for all to be modeled among people. Please include this information. I agree that peace is about loving and respecting one another, how should people go about doing this?
DeleteYou forgot part of the questions and please write a little more than you have right now.

DeletePeacemakers: Then and Now
ReplyDeletePeacemakers made a lot of peace in the world.

ReplyDeleteWorld Trade Center Assignment
On September 11, 2001 The United States of America suffered a tradegy. The Twin Towers which is also known as the World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists. Thousands of people died on this day. Two airplanes flew into the Twin Towers and the buildings fell with lots of people still inside of it. Many years after this a memorial was created for all the people who died on that sad morning. This memorial is to honor so many people who lost their lives. Every year on September 11th families gather there to remember their relatives.
Interview:
My dad Mr.
Tyler, this was very good and you included lots of details.
DeleteIT WAS ALRIGHT

ReplyDeleteThe whole meaning of world peace is bringing peace to the world.

DeleteWorld Peace
ReplyDeleteWorld peace is an ideal of freedom.
Good work, but not great work. You should write more.

ReplyDeleteThe purpose of our trip to the United Nations was to learn about how it maintains peace in our world. The U.N. promotes peace because it acts as a mediator between nations in conflict.
Part I
ReplyDeleteThe United Nations promotes peace across the nation and connects countries together to help save lives.
I got ideas from your work thanks!

That’s what we need to think about.
Let me share with you my World peace project ideas:
The United Nations finest Peacekeepers will go around the World and deliver food, clothing, and goods to help the poor survive.
Help the needy children with clothing, education, food, and shelter
We could work on the right and peaceful things together instead of the wrong and unpeaceful things
We could discuss what we need to do to make World Peace happen and make the Earth a better place to visit or live
Based on these reasons the World can have peace, have educated children and adults which would make better World. The journey to peace begins this year right now this moment let’s work together to make this dream true!
What can we do to bring even more peace?
Thank you for listening I really appreciate it and always remember “Peace… it’s up to us”

ReplyDeleteGreeting my fellow Jr. Diplomats,
ReplyDeleteToday we are gathered here to talk about ways that we can bring peace to the world.

ReplyDeleteWe are gathered here today to review and come up with ways we can help our fallen countries.
ReplyDeleteHere are some ways I feel we could help assist these people improve their living conditions with minimal cost to the federal government.

ReplyDeleteWhat is the definition of peace?
Like the negro national anthen says "Lets us march on, til victory is one!" So they say, so it must be done.
sorry for late resoponse my work wouldnt post.

Question: When was the United Nations created?
Answer: The United Nations was created in the year of 1919.
Question: What is the name of the UN Secretary General and what country is he/she from?
Answer: The name of the UN Secretary General is Ban Ki-moon and he/ she came from Korea. He was born on June 13, 1994
Question: Explain the purpose of the United Nations.
Answer: The purpose of the United Nations is to make the place we are living in a better place.
What are the 2 questions that you would like to ask our tour guide?
Question 1: Who thought of making the United Nations?
Question 2: Which state and/or country was the first to join the United Nations?
DeleteHello, all readers of the TFTP.
DeleteWell, let me tell you what the United Nations is about.

Here is the Interview:
DeleteSeptember 11, 2001 was a tragic day. Here is how it went:
Aissa: Where were you during 9/11?
ReplyDeleteThere are many different definitions of peace.
They would tell me and I would come up with a plan that satisfies every ones needs.
i emailed my boigraphy to the project boost email'

ReplyDeleteNelson Mandela
