Good evening BOOST members! I hope you had a relaxing weekend and was able to share all of the wonderful information you learned from our United Nations tour with your family. The trip was very informative and everyone was well behaved and attentive. Great Job!!!
Here is your assignment that is due to your assigned teacher by Friday, 2/3/12.
Pretend you are a travel magazine writer and you are writing an article about your visit to the U.N. In your article include as much information (details) about our visit. How does the United Nations work towards ensuring there is peace around the world? Think about the process we had to go through just to get into the building, the 5 parts that make up the United Nations for example. Also, include your personal reflection of the the trip. Ms. Brown and myself are looking forward to reading your responses. Make sure you email and post here on our blog.

Project BOOST: United Nations Assignment
Have you ever thought of what role The United Nations contributed to our world? On your next day off, here are some reasons why you should visit The United Nations. My project Boost members and I visited The United Nations and was amazed at how much we learned. It was a very interesting and educational trip. We did some research before we embarked on our trip, therefore, we were equipped with our questions for our tour guide. When we got there, security was very tight, so leave the luggage behind. It took us a few minutes to go through security and meet with our tour guide. Our tour guide handed us headphones that we could communicate and hear each other as we were given our tour of The United Nations.
The United Nations was created on October 24, 1945. There are 193 states in the United Nations. The United Nations General Secretary is Ban Ki-moon from South Korea. There are five main bodies that make up The United Nations: General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, Trusteeship Council and International Court of Justice.
We were told about the peacekeepers that go around trying to maintain peace throughout the world. If there are children that are misplaced due to war or natural disaster, The United Nations will provide medical attention, food and shelter. Peanut butter became a treat for the kids around the world because it was nutritious, healthy and sweet. The United Nations protect human rights and make sure that each person is treated equally.
My personal reflection of this trip was enjoyable. I loved learning about The United Nations and the important role that they play promoting world peace, protecting human rights, gender equality and the advancement of women, environmental and refugee protection, disaster relief, counter terrorism, economic and social development and international health. I would definitely recommend this trip.
Cameron I'm glad you enjoyed our trip and found it informative.

Visit to the U.N.
I always thought that the President of the United States controlled the country and worked with all the nations alone. That is until I visited the United Nations.
It is the place that works hard to keep our nations together. Walking into the building you feel safe it almost feels like you are in airport. When you arrive to the building there are flags outside representing all the countries that are united by the U.N., from A- Z. No matter where you are from you will feel like you are home when you see your countries flag waving in the wind.
There is a mini display of the United Nations building that has 5 buildings and is fun to look at. There are a lot of rooms and they are all very important.
There are pictures all over that display all the things the United Nations is involved in like the U.N.I.C.E.F and all the countries they are helping by dropping food from the sky and sending the school in a box to help educate the children.
The United Nations general assembly is in control of the most important parts of what the U.N. stands for and that is making sure that every nation is heard.
It is a place that our president visits during the year. I wanted to go in every room but it would have taken all day. If you want to learn about peace and who is in charge of making sure that our nations stand together visit the U.N.
Great job Nyla! Do you remember the name of the country that begins with the letter A and the one with Z? I'm happy you found the trip enjoyable and interesting!

PROJECT BOOST: UNITED NATIONS ASSIGNMENT
Our trip to the United Nations was fascinating because learned a lot about how many countries work together to try and make this world a peaceful place.
We left school and took the Long Island Railroad into the city. When we got there we saw a lot of nice buildings and in front of the U.N. there were flags from 193 different countries. When we went inside we had to go through security so they could make sure everyone was okay. We had to take off our coats and put our digital camera in the bin with our coats. Then we went through the metal detector. Shot, you would think going through security would be bad but it was pretty fast.
After security we went to the waiting area to meet our Tour Guides. One was a woman from Urkaine and the other was a man from man from Italy. We had to wear headphones so we can hear the lady tale it was so cool. She told us about UNICEF it is a foundation to help other countries that have natural disasters like earthquakes and hurricanes to provide them food and water. We learned that some UNICEF helpers are in the army and they try to help kids do the rights things. They even take care of people who are severly hurt and some who are diagnosed with a deadly disease.
Later we walked passed the General Assembly and we got to see the General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon. Now that was awesome because they were having a meeting and we saw all the important people.
We even went to the gift shop and I got me a cup with a crazy straw. We had so much and my friends were enjoying themselves too. We saw statues, pictures, and even landmines.
Finally at the end of the tour we were all excited about all the things we learned and headed back to school. I really enjoyed myself and I’m going to tell all my family and friends that they should go too because they will learn a lot of stuff too.
Tyler I'm glad you enjoyed the trip but make sure that you write facutal information. We took a school bus and we did not see the Secretary General.
