Greetings BOOST students,

Wow! Time is flying by.  We are getting closer and closer to our trip the Washington D.C. and I am so very excited!
I wanted to take this time to let you all know that Ms. Haigler and I are really proud of the work that you have done thus far.  Although some of you have had issues with posting your work on time, overall we have to give you guys credit for being able to work independently on your writing projects, stay focused and communicate with regularly on our blog and via email.
Now I know you've been asking, "What are we gonna do next?"

Well here it is.  Below, you will find a list of activities that we have developed especially for you.
Each project will be posted separately, so that you have enough time to complete each assignment, and not become overwhelmed. If you have any questions, please send your assigned teacher an email and it will be answered as soon a possible.

BOOST Projects and Activities

  • The Nobel Peace Prize:  Biography (click the Assignment tab for further information)
  • Peace Act Project: Mosaic Art Work (We will begin to work on this during the month of May)
  • T-Shirt: You will be designing a Poster for Peace. Your poster will then be scanned into the computer and printed out on transfer paper to create a one of a kind T-Shirt.
  • Fundraiser: (To Be Announced)
  • Washington Monument Essay: Upon our return from Washington D.C. you will use your notes and personal experience to compose a narrative essay about your trip.
  • Prepare to publish your Power Point presentation. (After the spring vacation, I will be working with you during your lunch periods to fine-tune your Power Point presentations.  For now, continue to type your information into your presentation.  We will work together to edit and format changes later)
P.S. Your pictures are ready, so please check your email or bring your flash-drive to the Tech. Lab.

Enjoy your weekend,
Mrs. Brown

Good evening BOOST students! I hope you gained better insight on the importance our new NYC landmark the World Trade Memorial.  If you haven't done so already you should look online to see how the towers actually looked and it will give you a clearer frame of reference on the significance of the North and South Pools that we visited.

Your task for this week is as follows and is due on or before Friday 3/9 to both our blogspot and emailed to your assigned teacher.  Our theme for BOOST is Peacemakers Then and Now.  We have visited the U.N. and the World Trade Memorial and you have learned the history behind both places.
Part I
What is your definition of the word peace? In your own words discuss how both of these places are examples of symbols of peace. Include your thoughts and feelings about seeing the acutal spot where the towers stood, the names of the people who died on that day as well as those in the 1993 bombing attack.  What were your thoughts and feelings about this experience? What do youthink the continioust flow of water represents? Also, think about the roles the U.N. plays in maintaining peace across the world. Be insightful.
Part II
Also, think through the lens of a United Nations peacekeeper and you have scheduled a meeting with children from various countries who are interested in world peace. The topic of the meeting is to develop a plan for peaceful relations among the countries. How will you go about creating peace among all nations? Think carefully and crictically.

Remember to post your responses in the trip responses section of our blog and submit it to your assigned teacher.  All students are expected to post a comment on at least 4 different BOOST members responses.
Submit quality work you guys! Have a wonderful weekend.  Ms. Haigler

Submitting Assignments

Greetings BOOST members, I just wanted to remind each of you that a special email was created specifically for the submission of Project Boost assignments. Please do not use the mrsbrownrm307@yahoo.com email, that is for school projects only. Using our BOOST email makes it easier to manage 20 students opposed to 350 students. Also, post your comments on this blog only. Please do notice our Tech. Kids blog, that is for school project posts only. By now, you all should have completed two assignments: The United Nations essay and the World Trade/ Interview, which was posted this past Monday. Remember, you all wanted to work on these activities independently, so it is your responsibility to submit your work on time as well as visit the blog regularly for updates and information. We will meet in the lab this Friday morning before the trip to discuss your progress and make sure everyone is on the same page. As always, be sure to wear your BOOST shirt, eat a good breakfast, bring your BOOST bag, and spending money if you'd like to purchase a souvenir. I look forward to speaking with all of you soon. Mrs. Brown
